Season 2 of Street Fighter The Animated Series is not a that much different from Season 1. The animation looks the same along and the voice acting pretty much stays the same from the first season. There are still some stand alone episodes but this season saw two primary story arcs that take almost the whole season to resolve. On paper this sounds like a good idea that would keep people coming back each week. In practice, this only works when the stories are interesting.
The first story arc revolves around Cammy and how she is a sleeper agent for Bison. Cammy working for Bison kinda follows the story of the games. Only a few episodes involve this arc and while I like the idea behind it, I thought the execution could have been slightly better. Ultimately you find out at some point Cammy was brainwashed by Bison and the final episode sees her coming to her senses. For me, this was the better story arc in the season.
The other arc has to do with Blanka being exposed to more mutagen and becoming more beast like. This arc starts right after the Cammy one starts and also lasts a few episodes over the course of the season. The episodes in this arc involve Blanka starting to give into his beast side but by the end of it he learns to control it. The episode dealing with the mutagen itself wasn't bad but this whole story about Blanka dealing with being different and mutated was all ready covered in the first season. I also thought the final episode in this arc was kind of stupid since it ended up dealing with aliens.
The rest of the episodes in the second season were alright. There was an episode that crossed over with characters from the Final Fight games. There was also a episode that tied into three other cartoons that were running at the same time. Some episodes introduced new characters like Rose and Sakura. Probably my favorite episode of the season was episode 17 "The World's Greatest Warrior" which involved Ken and Ryu fighting Akuma.
Season 2 was not as good as season 1 was and season 1 wasn't great to begin with. While I don't mind season spanning arcs in shows, I don't think a cartoon is the right place for one. With that said, they should have only focused on the Cammy arc and scrapped the Blanka one if for nothing else it was kinda redundant. While season 2 did have some decent episodes, it was starting to show why a fighting game franchise doesn't translate well to a weekly cartoon series. This probably is part of the reason why this was the last season in the series.
